My goal is to awaken in students the awe of music as an art. I focus on the individual student's growth and personal development. I believe that fun is an important motivator for children. Consequently, early piano study should be conducted with a spirit of play. This does not imply inefficiency or ineffectiveness. To the contrary. The spirit of play in the lesson engages the attention and energy of the student, promoting deeper learning.
There are many musical skills students will learn: how to read music, play by ear, theory, composition, and performance techniques. Students will also learn many valuable life skills that lie outside the realm of musical skills: confidence, curiosity, discipline, patience, self-esteem, sensitivity to nuance, work habits, and understanding how process relates to product.
